This exhibition is dedicated to the work of Joxerra Melguizo (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1968), and covers the artist's work over the last 10 years. His work emphasises the idea of process, manifesting as a trace of day-to-day work in the studio, focusing on methods of creation and thought through drawing, line, and colour. It forms a kind of diary, an alphabet of symbols, abstract forms, images, and texts.
At the heart of the exhibition is a large mural installation, consisting of nearly a thousand drawings and square-format paintings arranged in a pattern that organises the different sizes. These works break away from the idea of representation and landscape, placing the focus instead on a reflection of the artistic process—examining technique, function, and its relevance both to the artist individually and within the broader context of art, as well as the ideological and social connections tied to his practice.
The project is complemented by two installations that showcase the remnants left behind by the creative process. In one, a set of test tubes hanging from the ceiling collect and categorise the residual materials used; in the other, the masking tapes used to block out areas of colour form a chromatic palimpsest—an accidental accumulation of lines that poetically and obsessively transfer the process onto the walls. The exhibition also presents one of the key pieces in Melguizo's artistic journey, La medida del espacio III (1997), which contrasts nature with the human scale.
