The Tabakalera International Centre for Contemporary Culture, Artium Museum of Contemporary Art of the Basque Country and Jorge Oteiza Museum Foundation have launched the call for proposals to participate in the third edition of the JAI (Jardun Artistikoen Institutua) Institute of Artistic Practices. JAI is an art school geared towards artists that will open its doors in the summer to make artistic practice the core of its programme, promoting research, production, perception and critical work. The teaching staff will include artists participating in the respective programmes of the three entities. Those taking part in 2022 include Rosalind Nashashibi, Georgia Sagri, Lea Porsager, David Bestué, Ainara Elgoibar, Alejandro Cesarco, Ibon Aranberri, Jon Mikel Euba, Asier Mendizabal, Itziar Okariz, Mattin, Pierre Bal-Blanc, Isabel Herguera and Txaro Arrazola. The tutors will be Ibon Aranberri, Asier Mendizabal and Itziar Okariz.
The Jorge Oteiza Museum Foundation has joined this initiative for its third edition. The centre is a monographic space housing the artist’s personal collection that is located in the town of Alzuza, Navarre, nine kilometres from Pamplona. This new collaboration provides JAI with the possibility of opening up to new scenarios and expanding the sensory possibilities of artistic experience. It also strengthens the foundations of the programme’s experimental educational project.
Institute of Artistic Practices
JAI is presenting itself as a summer school that intends to establish a space to develop artistic exchanges and encounters. In order to do this, the programme is bringing together international professional voices from extremely different backgrounds, with the capacity to identify the potential of artistic practice in order to examine the contemporary world and establish a critical relationship on the use of its languages. Ibon Aranberri (artist), Asier Mendizabal (artist and professor at KKH, Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm) and Itziar Okariz (artist) will once again acts as tutors for this new edition at JAI, and the team of teachers will be made up of professionals who are currently part of the exhibition and public programmes of the institutions promoting the call for proposals. Joining us will be Rosalind Nashashibi, Georgia Sagri, Lea Porsager, David Bestué, Ainara Elgoibar, Alejandro Cesarco, Jon Mikel Euba, Mattin, Pierre Bal-Blanc, Isabel Herguera, Erlea Maneros Zabala and Txaro Arrazola.
Alongside these people, JAI will also have a study committee made up of Catalina Lozano (chief curator at Artium Museoa), Oier Etxeberria (head of public programmes at CICC Tabakalera, San Sebastian) and the three aforementioned tutors. The members of the committee will be in charge of selecting the 16 participants who will form part of the school for artists.
