On 9 October 2025, as part of the actions being carried out in different cities across the country to denounce Israel's systematic violation of the human rights of the Palestinian population in Gaza, artist Joëlle Tuerlinckx (Brussels, 1958) proposes to repaint her work A LEGAL MUSEAL TAG 58 m (2017 remake 2024), located in the outdoor plaza of the Basque Country Museum of Contemporary Art, Artium Museoa. This work, a white line —a colour normally considered neutral in museum codes—, will exceptionally be painted red.
Marking this red line invites us to reflect on all the limits that have been exceeded during this genocide, which has now been going on for two years, and on the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire and justice for Palestine. With this gesture in the public space, the museum community and Tuerlinckx join in the condemnation and express their solidarity with the Palestinian people.
A LEGAL MUSEAL TAG 58 m (2017 remake 2024) was presented at Artium Museoa as part of the exhibition El caso de l(a casa) museo(a) by Joëlle Tuerlinckx between 15 November 2024 and 27 April 2025.
